Jamaica 2010 Video

Jamaica 2010

The power of the resurrection is in us! God uses each of our missions to reveal something of Him. It could be a very simple concept that when received is life changing. For example, during our prayer on the morning before the mission, Brother Chris realized how special he was in the eyes of God. Tears began to roll down his eyes as this feeling of love overtook him. Likewise, during this year’s mission trip to Jamaica, our team experienced firsthand what it is to have the power of the resurrection in us. It was a gigantic step in our development as Christians and in our walk with the Lord. What are the events that lead us to experience this power which is the living God in us, the Holy Spirit in us? We surrendered to Him and allowed Him to guide us and teach us every step of the way. We did what we could not have done in the flesh. How does one begin to address the needs of 300 people in one room with our limited resources and manpower? We did it because He is in us and He is not limited and He is all powerful.

Our team included Louis Kamika, Jennifer Parke, Glenvina Peters, Chris and Pauline Ramsey, Hyacinth Silvera, Rebecca Toruno Doctors Val and John Royes and I. It was beautiful to see our team comprised of mostly Jamaican brothers and sisters willing to work in their country in the name of Jesus. This year we had the privilege of being accompanied by Pastor Danne King from Life Gate Christian Center. All of us worked together in the body of Christ to bring Him Glory and praise. We saw over four hundred patients in three days of work. Pastor King shared the Gospel each morning before starting the medical mission. All participants herd the Gospel. Pastor King also prayed for the sick in the name of Jesus and some that came in with walking difficulties dropped their canes and walk along pastor at a good speed. Many people came to the Lord, lives were touched and people were transformed. Pastor King also preached for three consecutive nights on The Kingdom, The Power of the Resurrection and Where is your Faith?
We experienced the love of God and the peace of Christ among us and with our Jamaican brethren.

Pastors Powel and Wright of the Stettin Baptist Church of God were as loving as always. Sisters cooked for us and tended to our needs with love and attention to detail. Most importantly there was love and gratitude from the hundreds of patients attended. We were unable to meet all their needs but we were able to address all major complaints with the medicines we were carrying. Most importantly, they herd and most of the received the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. If you would like to have an encounter with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit plan to join us in Jamaica 2011.

In His love,
Jorge W. Gomez, MD

Dominican Republic 2010

Each mission presents a unique opportunity to learn a different characteristic about the living God we serve. In the past He has revealed and glorified himself through the manifestation of the power of prayer, the power of salvation in the Gospel and the power of laying hands on the sick. On this trip to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, love was the central theme and manifestation of God.

From the moment we arrived at the airport, we were received with the warm welcome and brotherly embrace of Pastor Lucrecio Mercado, the Senior Pastor of the Puerto Plata Church of Christ, and host of our mission. Most pleasantly, we were also received by Pastor Ana Fernandez from Casa de Oracion para Todos Los Pueblos in Clifton New Jersey, her mother Angela Urena de Brito and her nephew Felipe. Brother Felipe works at the airport and was instrumental in helping us to clear the medications through customs without much difficulty.

The Doctors in Christ missionary team stayed at the Fun Royale-Tropicale inside the hotel complex Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata. The grounds of this hotel is surrounded by mountains and ocean. The glory of creation was evident daily. Mr. Marcos Legreaux is the General Manager of this hotel as well as the Puerto Plata Village. I mention this only to demonstrate how the love and the grace of God was with us and expressed through this Christian family. Pastor Ana Fernandez has several family members working in this hotel including her sister Lucy, the hotel's Concierge and her sister Angie who is married to Mr. Legreaux. As you can imagine, God used this family to bless us and accommodate us like never before. Our missionary team received special treatment from the moment we arrived. Outstanding hospitality was extended to us with details such as especial assignment of personnel to insure our health, safety and security. The preparation of meals were supervised to make sure we would not become sick as is customary in foreign travel. Dinning room hours were extended just to accommodate us upon returning late from any mission site. Everything was available to us upon request because we were serving the Lord. The management at the Fun Royale-Tropicale and the Puerto Plata Village has pledged to extend similar hospitality, discount prices and excellent services to any missionary group, church, or Christian ministry seeking to perform Kingdom work in the Dominican Republic. We prayed for this hotel to become a missionary center hosting groups from abroad. It already caters to many local Christian organizations.

Our missionary team was comprised of brothers Fred Soltau, Dale Wright, Jack Saud, Jorge and Danny Gomez and sisters Esperanza Saud, Catalina Sierra, Carmen Martinez, Elena and Lynette Gomez. We had the privilege to be accompanied by several pastors from different churches and denominations. Pastors Ismael Fernandez and Pastor Izaguirre are from Primera Iglesia Bautista Maranatha located in Hialeah, Florida. As mentioned, we also had Pastor Ana Fernandez from Casa de Oracion Para Todos Los Pueblos in New Jersey. This is the first time in our missionary history that Doctors in Christ is accompanied by pastors outside our congregation. I am convicted that this is an important sign of growth and legitimacy for our ministry. God is undoubtedly weaving a fabric of interconnected strands of ministries for His purpose and Glory. All the pastors involved in this mission, including Pastor Lucrecio, are strong missionary pastors with a heart and passion for sharing the Gospel. They demonstrated this by leading us in the evangelism of hundreds of patients.

Our medical mission took place in the Montellano Distric of Puerto Plata. On day one we were supported by Iglesia de Cristo de Tamarindo (Pastor Etienne Idonel). Dr. Wright, Nurse Catalina and I saw patients daily. We worked with the Haitian population of the Bateys. This is the poorest of the poor with no access to medical care or money to purchase medicines. Mothers would come with 4-5 children at a time. There were many wounds tended and dressed. The second day was hosted by Escuela Mano a Mano in El Saman. The third day was hosted by Iglesia Cristiana Reformada in Pancho Mateo. Each day we saw anywhere from 125-150 patients. Many more received over the counter medications and anti parasitic medication. I am sure the Lord will give a especial blessing to all the doctors and nurses that left their homes and families to render services to the poor and needy in the name of Jesus. Esperanza, Jack and Danny set up, managed and dispensed all prescriptions and medications from the pharmacy. I would like to thank them for the extremely complex and hard work the preformed under difficult conditions. I would also like to thank all the translators that made this mission possible including Lynette that translated to English for Dr. Wright and Brothers Etienne and Edmond who translated French into either English or Spanish to the rest of the team. Outstanding job and may all of you receive a blessing from God.

Sharing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus is the most important task of Doctors in Christ. All pastors and missionaries not involved in medical care were sharing the Gospel either individually or in small groups. On day one, Pastors Ismael and Izaguirre were also going door to door evangelizing the community. On day two, Pastor Izaguirre was kind enough to lend additional support in triaging the large numbers of patients arriving each day. All other pastors stayed near the patients to evangelize them after their medical care. All missionaries including brother Fred and sisters Elena and Carmen were relentless in sharing the Gospel as well as laying hands and praying for the sick. Blessing from the Lord for a job well done!

I will close by saying to God be all the glory and praise. We lived and remained in the love of the Father, we went to fulfil the great commission in the name of His beloved Son Jesus and we were empowered, equipped and led by the Holy Spirit. It was the Holy Spirit that prepared the fields for the harvest, guided us in the smallest of details and made it possible for us to overcome all obstacles and difficulties. We came face to face with the Glory of God. In John 15:12 Jesus said " My command is this: Love one another as I loved you." On behalf of the missionary team of Doctors in Christ I wish to thank all of those who made this mission possible and were not mentioned. Blessing to all of those brothers and sisters who prayed. Blessing to all those brothers and sisters who donated money and clothing in support of this mission. Blessing to all churches that support Doctors in Christ including Puerto Plata Iglesia de Cristo, Casa de Oracion para Todos Los Pueblos, Maranatha and Ministerio Cristiano Compartiendo Con Cristo and to Pastor King at Life Gate Christian Center for your unwavering support of this ministry. Thanks to the people of the Dominican Republic and may the Lord bless your land. Special thanks to Pastor Lucrecio Mercado, Pastor Ana Fernandez, her mother Angela and the entire Brito family for teaching us to love like Christ.

Remain in His love,

Jorge W. Gomez MD

Pictures will follow. Next mission is Jamaica 2010, November 9-13. See you there!

Puerto Plata here we come!

Dear Doctors in Christ,

Today we had the prayer and packing meeting for Doctors in Christ in preparation for the upcoming mission to the Dominican Republic in the Puerto Plata area. We will be received by the Puerto Plata Church of Christ. We are looking forward to spending time in fellowship, prayer and Kingdom work with Pastor Lucrecio and the rest of the congregation.

We had the pleasure of having lunch after a beautiful meal was prepared by brother Helmut. Lynette Gomez selected worship songs that really ministered to us as we begin to have spiritual preparation for this mission. I continued the teaching of our pastor, Pastor King on the series of The Call of God and how it pertains to Doctors in Christ. The Call of God on my life to this ministry, our mission statement and vision statement, as well as plan and strategy for the future was discussed in depth with all who attended and specifically with the Board members who were present. I expressed my gratitude and extended a hand of partnership to those who share the vision of God for this ministry. One person can not accomplish the job alone and God interconnects us and brings us together for His purpose and Glory.

We had extensive prayer time and turned this mission, our lives and all that is in it to God. Bless the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Spirit. They are with us, guiding and teaching us, providing for us. His Grace is sufficient and it is all that we need. You are still on time to make reservations for this trip. See you in Puerto Plata.

In His Grace,

Jorge W. Gomez, MD

Doctors In Christ 2010 mission sites are announced

After much prayer, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, consultation with Pastor King and Doctors In Christ spiritual elder Dr Juan Otero, the vision for our ministry in 2010 is as follows:

2010 is a year of building the ministry from a solid foundation, which is our Rock, the Lord Jesus. We are committing to advertising, bulk mailing and church visitation for recruitments of Christian Doctors, nurses, evangelist and missionaries. We must solidify and build from the bottom up prior to further expansion. We do not have the Physician manpower to supply four missions in 2010. We have agreed to these sites and dates.

Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata area: June 8-12. The receiving church is Iglesia De Jesus Cristo, Pastora Anna Fernandez. We are going to start the process of finding package accommodations.

Jamaica, Stettin area: November 9-13. The receiving church is Stettin Baptist Church, Pastor Ralston Powell.

We have pledged financial support for the year 2010 to brother Roe Serralta for the effort to maintain an evangelical-medical ministry in Dominica. Brother Roe is working with Ross University, local Christian doctors and worship teams. We will not be able to extend our commitment beyond 2010. A similar pledge has been made to Dr Lucas Mendoza for his efforts in Colombia.

Jamaica 2009

Doctors In Christ culminated the 2009 year with it's mission to Stettin, Jamaica where the Spirit once again took us to a new level of service, worship and encounter with Him.  Once again we saw close to 400 patients in 3 days of work.  The physical and spiritual needs of these people were so great, that only with the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon us,  we were able to have the strength and the power to carry on.  To God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit goes the Glory.
We were received with much love like always.  A year had past since last mission to Jamaica but upon meeting with Pastor Powel and Pastor Wright it was if no time had past since our last goodbyes.  The mission took place at the Stettin New Testament Church with similar set up and arrangement as last year.  This year however the people were eagerly waiting for us so that the crowds were bigger right from the outset.
Our missionary team was composed of Dr Damian Martinez, Dr. Dale Wright and myself who were the physicians that traveled from Miami.  We were met there by doctors Val and John Royes. Dr. Val Royes has a similar ministry operating in Jamaica and both her and her husband came down from Kingston on Friday to be our pediatricians for this mission.  My deepest thanks goes to this couple who are committed to the work of the Lord.  Without them hundreds of children could not have been seen.
Pauline Ramsey and Brenda Leighton were the registration and triage personnel.   They wrote by hand all the names, contact information, vital signs and medicines for all patients seen.  In addition, they did not loose an opportunity to share the Gospel and minister to the sick.  This was an unbelievable task that needed an anointing from God.  Fred and Grace once again were the primary evangelist and counselors.  Their passion for the Gospel and their compassion for the people is an example to all.  They always minister, pray and lay hand on the sick until they are hoarse and can not speak anymore.  The Lord has a reward for them in heaven.
Sisters Rebecca Toruno and Kathy Rejouis were in charge of the children ministry as well as praying over the sick.  Hundreds of children received the Gospel, were fed with the Word and with love.  Some of them were also fed physically because they were hungry.  These godly women left it all on the mission field but the received so much love in return that it was all worth while.  What a blessing it was to have them.
Brother Damian is a Chiropractic physician that adjusted the entire town.  He gave classes on how to lift properly and avoid injury.  Remember that this community is made up of primarily yam farmers so almost everyone had back pain, arthritis or total body pain.  We dispensed more than 3000 tablets of Ibuprofen, Tylenol and Aspirin.  Dr. Martinez himself ended up in a physical knot but confessed to this being the best experience of his life as a Christian after his wedding and birth of his children.  Brother Damian is a man of God dedicated to the work of the Kingdom.  He shared the Gospel with young and old and was a blessing to the team.  He ministered to us in regards to our own personal heath and his advised was well taken.
Brother Dale Wright and myself were busy seeing as many patients as humanly possible which was around 40 cases per day each.  Dr. Wright is a quite, humble man who answered the call of God to this mission faithfully and served well.  There is a special blessing for him from the Lord for his life.  Dale also was ministered to by the Lord while on the trip and this encounter with Jesus will change his life forever.
Last but not least was the Pharmacy staff, Simone and Lois Kamika.  These sisters worked for hours on their feet dispensing all the medications for the 400 patients seen.  I know that every inch of their bodies hurt at the end of each day.  Their job was very important as they were responsible for dispensing medications without error, giving the proper instructions to the patients and finally sharing of the Gospel or a word of encouragement with the sick.
I felt that the prayer from our group and specially from brother Fred and sister Kathy was at a new level.  This clearly revealed our growth in Christ and the influence of the discipleship under Pastor Danne King at Life Gate Christian Center.  The Lord used this prayer of faith to heal the sick, cast out demons and minister to the people.
The mission ended with a Friday night worship concert that lasted 3 hours.  This was a party on to the Lord Jamaican style with Reggae Gospel music.  If there is one thing beside the blessing of the Holy Spirit on us for our service and obedience that we took home,  it is the worship spirit of the Jamaican people.  My goodness!!!  Through out the 3 days we were there we herd beautiful and spontaneous praise and worship.  At times it was truly so angelical that it created the movement of the Spirit among us. People would weep even in distant areas away from where the worship was taking place. During the worship concert, a  big movement of the Spirit and His Glory was manifested among us. This was an encounter with our Lord Jesus and His joy was  felt as we worshiped Him. The Joy was so intense that it moved us to end the service with a conga line celebration.  Wow! I wish that you all would have been there to share this.

I wish to thank all of you who made this year of missionary work in the ministry of Doctors In Christ so rewarding and precious.  To all the doctors, pastors, missionaries I say thank you for your dedication and faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ. To all of those who cared for us, cooked for us and pampered us thank you. We love you and appreciate you. To those drivers that transported us safely on the dangerous roads of each country, thank you. We are in awe of your abilities.  To our Lord and Savior Jesus the provider, the sustainer, the most high Priest, the King, the comforter, the ability giver, the difference maker, the transformer of men and owner of this ministry, we love you and we thank you for making our lives worth living.  Doctors In Christ will see you all on the mission field 2010.  Stay in Christ. Stay in prayer. Seek the anointing within.

Colombia 2009

Colombia has been the most challenging mission trip that Doctors In Christ has undertaken and possibly the most rewarding.

We were received in Barranquilla by Pastor Pablo Mendoza the President of Misiones Cristianas Por Fe. This organization was founded more than 70 years ago by his father Enrique Mendoza who was sent by the Lord to evangelize northern Colombia in the early days of the evangelical movement.  Pastor Mendoza has single handed evangelized the city of Barranquilla and rural territory expanding three states.  This 91 year old apostle was in the mission field with us along with his sons Pablo and Lucas and his daughter Emma. It was an honor and a privilege to serve with this family which have been so faithfully committed to the Gospel for so many years.

Contrary to popular belief, Colombia is no longer a dangerous place to visit.  The current government has destroyed all but a small group of rebels located in the southern most area of the country and even those are in the process of being encircled and destroyed. Our group was never in danger.

After traveling 1 hour on a good paved road and 2 hours on dirt roads we reached the village of
Monroy.  This town has never been visited by foreigners so we were received with love and amazement. The missionary team included Dr. Lucas Mendoza and his sons Miguel Angel and Johnathan, Dr. Maribel Aguilera, my son Danny Gomez, Jack and Esperanza Saud.  We were joined and supported by the Mendoza family, Pablo, Jose and Emma and  friends Sandra, Gloria and Mayito as well as the local town church.  Our visit was beneficial in bringing together the town resources  for the support of the mission. Even people who are not members
of the church donated chairs, tables and whatever was needed to the mission site.

Thanks to the effort of Dr. Aguilera and Dr. Medoza who did both, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, we were able to see close to 500 patients, mostly children,  in 16 hours of work. Miguel Angel and I saw adults patients only.  Primary diseases encountered were malnutrition, gastritis, infections and skin diseases.  The last day we just distributed anti-parasitic medicines to the entire town.

Besides sharing the Gospel, we also had counseling for couples and single mothers.  The local Pastor kept track of the saved for follow-up and discipleship.  The response of the children to the visit was astonishing.  They would just hand around for hours peeking through windows hoping to catch a glimpse of us.  Many learned Christian songs in English from brother Jack and sister Esperanza.  The highlight of the trip came when we had a night service.  The presence  of the Holy Spirit was felt very strongly as we worshiped and the town poured out their love for us when it came time to give each other blessings.

We came home tired and worn out  but highly blessed.  I wish to thank all those who received us in Colombia and who worked so hard for the success of the mission.  I wish to thank each of our missionaries who took time from work and traveled to this remote area of the wold in the name of Jesus.  We know is our duty to do so but few have the resources or the heart to do so. Your blessing will come from the Lord as he always helps those who help the poor.  It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve along side with you.  I will see you in Jamaica 2009.

In His grace,

Jorge W. Gomez, M.D.

Dominican Republic Prayer Meeting

Dear Doctors in Christ brothers and sisters,

Today was a glorious day as we were in the presence of the Lord.  We worshiped Him in truth and in Spirit.  It is so beautiful to see brothers and sisters committed to the work of the ministry for the glory of God; for the purpose of God; for the love of God.  You could feel the bonding and the love of Christ in the room.  From the heart felt greetings, to the wonderfully prepared and served meal, to the fantastic praise and worship time. It was all Him.  We were all at His feet spending time with the Master.  There is no better way to spend an afternoon.  As the pouring rain was outside the house, His healing rain was inside our house.

Today, I am sure that lives were transformed, people were blessed, and hearts were touched by the love of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.  Pastor Juan Otero was not only a blessing to us by his powerful delivery of the Word of God, but himself was  blessed by the prophetic message of God for his life and ministry.  Pastor King was lifted up in prayer and like always, delivered a powerful prayer unleashing the anointing of God on this mission trip.  All missionaries were spiritually prepared for this trip.

Brothers and sisters, please continue to pray for this ministry.  The Holy Spirit has equipped us for the Great Commission work and those who remain faithful are receiving His blessings.  We prayed for all people who support us either with prayer, financial contribution or donations, or by going on missions trips.  Thank you for all you have done for Dominican Republic 2009.  We thank you for your future support for Colombia and Jamaica.
Circumstances have not allowed the Argentina mission doctors to travel at this time but we will continue to pray for this mission site in the future.

With the love of Christ,

Jorge

Dominica 2009

The Glory of God was exalted; His faithfulness observed and His Grace experienced by all.
Dominica was a smashing success! The harvest for souls was as ripe and sweet as a Dominican banana.

Prior to the trip some of us had fears and anxiety regarding our ability to meet the people's needs with such a small group. After all we were one doctor ( Dr Gomez), one nurse (brother Michael), one nurse assistant ( sister Esperanza), one children's ministry coordinator ( sister Rebecca) and four evangelists ( brother Fred and sisters Grace and Natalie and Lynette). One day while praying the Lord spoke to me and said " I will show you a glimpse of my ministry and I will give you power if you do it my way. I will raise you up and make you strong and I will give you a special blessing for your obedience". After that promise from the Lord we knew that we would handle anything with His Grace.

Dominica is a beautiful island resembling an emerald in the sea. The aerial view is breathtaking and once you are on the ground is even more impressive as it is mountainous terrain every inch covered with lush green vegetation.

We were received at the airport by representatives of the Mahout Baptist Revival Church, brothers Malcolm and Julius. We were able to pass all medications through customs with no problems. We did pray like never before for this and the Lord answered. They did not even check a single bag or box after we showed the letter from MAP international.

Brother Roe Serralta and his wife Anna and two daughters came with us on the same flight and we were comforted by this because Roe has become the island expert and he really knows his way around. He is so brave that he drives like a Dominican!

Day one of the medical mission was off to a slow start due several factors, location and lack of advertising. I suspect also a very strong oppression from the enemy. From 9:00 am to 2:00 p.m. we had not seen a single patient or shared the Word with anyone. Some of our young believers were getting quite anxious and wanted to operate by might. At that moment we came together as a group and prayed with all of our hearts to the Holy Spirit to guide us. We called for our Shepherd to lead His stranded flock. Immediately brother Malcolm thought about going down the hill and speaking to government officials to lend us the Marketplace for the next day. Mrs Fontaine and Mrs Adams allowed us to use this location which was more accessible to the elderly and the sick. We returned up the hill to the church with a smile on our faces knowing that the next day was going to be much better. The Lord gave us another gift and brought in 20 patients that afternoon and all received the Gospel and accepted the Lord.

Thursday we began to see patients in the Marketplace. The Glory of God was manifested. We saw a glimpse of Jesus ministry. The Marketplace was a place where He would see thousands of sick people brought to Him on mats. I saw 55 patients that day and brother Fred and Grace shared the Gospel without ceasing for at least 8 hours. Almost all came to Christ. That day the promises He had made to us came true as we were operating under His Grace and Power. He gave each and everyone of us the ability to do thing we had never done before. Rebecca had 30-50 children surrounding her at any time. She shared the Gospel and kids were accepting the Lord. She was singing and dancing, drawing and reading hour after hour.

Brother Michael and Esperanza were handling all prescriptions flawlessly. Natalie was floating and making herself available where ever she was needed. Lynette was the secretary and organized the entire flow of patients keeping perfect order and control of the situation. We also appreciated the help Anna Serralta offered us during each day of work. We were also supported By Pastor Regist and his lovely wife who made home cooked meals for us every day.

On this day we were joined by Tad Serralta and his wife and children as well as the entire Worship team from Sebring Florida ( Created To Worship). They were busy setting up everything for their ministry which was to give a Christian concert in conjunction with local artist at the Bay-front area that evening. Pastor James shared the Word.

We had the privilege to pray as one church and one body that morning at 6:30 am. We had a powerful prayer time as we worshiped our Lord while Johna sang praise songs by the ocean. We healed and strengthened each other with prayer. It is beautiful to be in the family of Christ amongst believers and feel that instant connection. We continued to pray for each other during the day and night events.

Finally day three was going well until mid day when after praying for brother Malcolm, a fire broke out very close to the mission site. We could actually feel the heat on our faces and a black cloud started to descend on us. We quickly gave away as much medicines as we could and packed the rest to leave with the church. Brother Michael heroically ran off to fight the fire and made the evening news. At that point we had seen 105 patients and 92 were saved. By far this is the most fertile ground I have seen for acceptance of the Gospel. Pastor Regist will follow these people in the near future to insure their continued Christian growth.

Finally Doctors In Christ would like to thank brothers Roe and Tad for their calling to Dominica and for allowing us to be part of their ministry. Congratulation to Created to Worship for a job well done. All of you are very talented and I would like to invite you to play at our church soon. To all the missionaries who donated their time and treasure to the Lord, He has a blessing for you. To brother Malcolm who was the angel sent to help us thanks and I know the Lord has a blessing for you. To brother Julius, our safe driver, thank you and blessing from the Lord. To the Mahout Baptist Revival Church may you continue to grow in Grace and multiply. Thank you Pastor and Mrs Regist for you hospitality.

To the people of Dominica we say thank you for having us and trusting us with your health. We felt that you are kind and loving people. I can't hardly wait to come back soon and do it even better. Just promise you will keep one of those delicious bananas waiting for me!

In His hands,

Jorge W. Gomez, MD

I write this summary of our recent Jamaica 2008 mission trip while sipping a cup of Blue Mountain coffee and saying; ya mon!   Yes,  I had my fill of curry goat,  ackee with cod fish ,  jerk chicken and Jamaican patties but nothing compares with the satisfaction of quenching our spiritual hunger with the bread of life and calming  our thirst with the flowing waters of the Holy Spirit.

Our missionary team included:  Dr. Rene Andino,  Dr. Emilio Lopez, Dr. Jorge Gomez,  nurse Lois Kamela and evangelists Fred and Grace Soltau,  Jack and Esperanza Saud, Pauline and Chris Ramsay, Brenda Leighton and teachers Kathy Salomon and Rebecca Toruno.

The mission took place in a town called Stettin, in the district of south Trelawny.  We were received by the New Testament Church of God,  a Pentecostal church of which Bishop Ralston Powell is the senior Pastor.  We were further supported by Reverend George Thomson and Pastor Wright.

I cannot compliment the brethren of Jamaica enough for the warm welcome, the love and the spirit of service with which we were received.   Bishop Powell  became an instant friend as he drove us around and we were able to converse and exchange ideas.  Pastor Wright gave us some very energetic and sincere preaching and Pastor Thomson was everywhere helping out with pharmacy, prayer, etc.  There were beautiful sisters that cooked for us a delicious lunch every day and that is how we tasted many of the national dishes and drinks.

I strongly believe that every person who volunteered for this mission trip was transformed by the Holy Spirit and grew closer in the walk with our Lord Jesus as we had a taste of His Ministry.  We always go on these trips with the purpose of sharing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus and tending to the medical care of the poor and the needy.  Somehow,  it is always us who are more positively affected as we come back filled to the brim with the love and peace of our Lord and Savior.

Sister Pauline was a blessing from the start as she took over as my secretary,  lawyer and advocate in all bureaucratic matters.  She had the only phone that worked,  she knew everybody, and everything.  I felt very secure at her side.  Most of all,  she knew how to get things done the Jamaican way.  No problem mon.  Sister Pauline, who was not sure what her role would be as she had never been on a missions trip,  ended up being instrumental in clearing all medications through customs,  praying with the patients,  helping on pharmacy runs and anything that came up.  Great warrior!

Sister Brenda was the face of the Ministry as she received the patients and prayed with them. After registration, patients were sent to have their vital signs taken and to give a short medical history to the nurse practitioner Mrs. Fisha, who did the best job I have ever seen of accurately recording an extraordinarily high number of elevated blood pressure in hypertensive patients.  Sister Lois was in charge of the dispensation of medicines and did a wonderful job of handling over 400 prescriptions in two days.

After triage patients were given the Gospel individually or in small groups by our evangelistic team.  It was amazing to see our church brothers and sisters completely overtaken by the Holy Spirit boldly proclaiming the Gospel.  I cannot say enough about the passion and leadership of our brother Jack.  He really blossomed as a missionary in Jamaica.  I  was deeply touched by the relentless counseling and prayer offered by Fred and Grace.  Sister Esperanza was multi- tasking with pregnancy counseling, evangelism and pharmacy.

Teachers Kathy and Rebecca were a total blessing to the children of Jamaica.  They ran the children's ministry and were responsible for sharing the Gospel with children of all ages, teaching them Christian songs and deeply impacting their minds.  Even a three year old when asked what did you learn today responded, " I learned about the cross and that Jesus loves me".
I could hear the children laughing and singing full voice for hours.  Many of the kids would show great signs of affection towards them  even in the night services as they would ignore the preaching and look back towards the sisters with great smiles on their faces.  I know that both Rebecca and Kathy were changed by this experience.

Together, the evangelistic team was able to lead over 45 adults to Christ.  The Holy Spirit moved mightily through them as the Word was penetrating people's  hearts.

The medical team treated over 400 patients in 3 days.  Patients would travel for 2 hours at times but most were from local areas. Some would wait an additional 4-6 hours to be seen.  We had enough medicines to meet most of their needs.  Doctors Andino and Lopez were often exhausted by the end of the day.  Emilio still had enough energy to play praise songs with his guitar as the team traveled 1 hour to return to the hotel.  As a doctor I can share with you that there is nothing better than to share the talents and the gifts that God has given us and put them to work for the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus.  No money,  no charts,  no malpractice insurance.  Just you, the patient and the Lord guiding you.  You feel the Spirit like never before.  You are filled with His love and His compassion.  You experience a glimpse of His healing ministry.  I cannot understand how the Lord did this for 3 straight years, 24/7.  He was a man just like us.

I can confidently say that all of us operated under His strength and power for 4 days.  We would wake up and pray from 6:30 am to 7:30 am.  We would have breakfast and drive an hour to the mission site.  There we would start work at 9:30 am and break only for a short lunch, continuing  to work until 6:30- 7: 00 pm.  We would return to the hotel by 8:00 pm and would have dinner, take a shower and sleep.

Is it worth it? Absolutely.  Sign me up for the next one.  I can't hardly wait.  It is my time with the Lord.  It is my service to the Lord.  It is my calling and my purpose in life. He gave me this great Ministry.  It is His until He calls me back home or instructs me otherwise.

Jamaica 2008 has been the crown Jewel of Doctors In Christ this year.  As the year ends our doctors and Board members will be taking into consideration future mission sites.  We are Spirit led and surrendered.  He once told me " I will provide you with the manpower. I will provide you with the  resources  and I will prepare the way.  I will tell you where the need is".
We will be in prayer to hear His voice speak to us.

I would like to thank all who have participated in all Doctors in Christ missions this year.  San Pedro de Macoris,  Dominican Republic;  Fuerte Apache,  Argentina;  and Trelawny,  Jamaica.  I appreciate your continued support of this ministry.  Your participation has been essential.   Please share your experience with another doctor, nurse, pastor or church member.
Lets grow this ministry together for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.  Only He takes the praise and the glory.  We are just humble servants.  Thank you for serving with me.

Psalm 67:4

Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy!  For You shall judge the people righteously and govern the nations on earth.

Argentina 2008-Pics

Argentina 2008

Missionaries: Pastor Brian Burkholder, Dr. Hugo Perez, Dr. Jorge W. Gomez, Nurses Jolie Lora,  Elizabeth Greaves and Theresa Palmer.

The Preparation:  One of the things I like most about going on a mission trip is the mental and spiritual preparation.  Once the focus of the mission is clear, one begins to work for the Lord with great pleasure.  Packaging the medications and coming together as a team was something we did with joy.  I give thanks to my wife Elena and my children Lynette and Danny for the hours of counting and bagging the medications.  Two weeks before departure the team came together for the final prayer and packing meeting. ( pics will be posted soon).

The Trip:  We took an 8 hour flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina on which most of us did not sleep much.  Once there, however, we forgot about the long flight as the reception by Pastor Claudio and Benjamin was warm and joyful.  Imagine trying to fit 15 pieces of luggage into a Fiat and a Toyota.  After checking in at our hotel, the girls bundled up for 30 degree weather and we lost no time heading for the empanadas.  That was the beginning of a 5 day eating spree that was part of being well cared for.  We thank  the host church, La Iglesia Del Barrio, as well as Pastor Luis and his wife; Pastor Claudio and his wife Neomi, his children Debbie and Lucy, as well as all the students that made this mission possible.

The Mission:  The next day we setup inside School #51 in the Fuerte Apache area just outside Buenos Aires.  This is a very poor slum area riddled with crime, drugs and prostitution. Military police patrolled the streets.  We were never in danger as we were under Divine protection.  The people who came to the medical campaign were warm and friendly.   They were highly appreciative of us being there to serve.  We treated 200 patients over 3 days. Praise God, 56 souls accepted the Lord as their personal Savior.

The Gospel was given collectively and individually by members of the local church, the majority of them students who were on vacation.  The outstanding service of these people to the Lord was truly admirable.  These youngsters are the heart and soul of that church.  Many of them run the music ministry as well.

Doctors In Christ acted in a highly organized fashion.  Patients were given numbers and Nurse Elizabeth evaluated patients to Internal Medicine, Cardiology or Pediatrics.   We were joined by two local doctors:  Dr. Christian Catala (Internal Medicine) and Dr. Samuel (Surgery).  It was great to see Dr. Perez witnessing and counseling patients.

Sister Jolie was a force to be reckoned with as she is on fire for the Lord.  Beside being the pediatric nurse, she initiated a children ministry and shared the Gospel with young and old alike.  She even shared the Gospel with the bathroom attendant at the airport.  I was deeply touched by her heart for Christ and will always be an inspiration for me.

Sister Terry is a recent nurse graduate.  She was the Pharmacy Supervisor.  She was instrumental in the correct dispensation of medications, dose calculation for pediatric patients and providing breathing treatments to all.

Pastor Burkholder was brilliant in delivering powerful messages during consecutive night services which we used to invite those patients we had treated in the morning.  The music ministry was beautiful. Debbie Gimenez played the keyboard for the first time in public.  She had only been taking lessons for three months.  These kids have a gigantic heart for the Lord.

On Friday, came the most difficult part which was to say goodbye to those who had poured out their heart to us for a week.  Goodbye to a poverty stricken area we wish we could fix. Goodbye to 56 new brothers in Christ.

I was speaking with sister Elizabeth last night as she confessed that Terry and her had been deeply affected by this trip.   She felt as if she had unfinished business back in Argentina.  I think we all do.  How can we be completely satisfied with the work what we do when there is so much yet to be done.  As disciples of our Lord Jesus, we are always looking for the next opportunity to serve.

I glorify God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit for the work He did in Argentina.  His miracles were evident daily.  I loved the time we spent together in prayer.  I love to serve Him and to love Him each day more and more.  I ca no longer live without my beautiful King, my friend and my Savior.

If you want to be part of this experience contact us and join us in Jamaica, November, 2008. May the Lord always bless you.

We are days away from Buenos Aires.  Our missionaries include Dr. Hugo Perez (pediatrics), Dr. Jorge Gomez ( cardiology and internal medicine),  Theresa Palmer and Yolanda Lora both nurses.  Our Pastor will be Brian Burkholder From The Master's Academy.

We are going to be having a Prayer and Packing meeting at my house this Saturday at 10:30 am.  All of you can join us in spirit by you prayers.  We need to pray for the Gospel to be given without problems and that people will receive it and be led to salvation

It is a privilege and a joy to work for for Jesus only because we love Him and we have so many things to be thankful for.  I hope many of you can join us in November for the Jamaica trip.

Pictures of the San Pedro de Marcoris Mission 2008

The grace of Jesus was present with us at all times. We are privileged to serve as vessels for the Lord. The Gospel was shared with over 600 people, many of them came to Christ. However, I believe that we received a bigger blessing. I can hardly wait 'til the next mission!
